Pom Wonderful – Blueberry Pomegranate

Posted: June 26th, 2011
Packaging
This is probably one of the cooler bottles that I have reviewed. Visually it is different from other stuff out there, however functionally it’s a bit awkward to hold. Do I grip the boobies or do I squeeze the weird shape around the top.  Who doesn’t love a heart? Awww…

Smell

I still don’t know how to describe the smell. It’s pleasantly pleasing, like nice perfume or a freshly cleaned locker room.  It’s the pomegranate I can’t seem to place, do people really drink whatever pomegranate is?

Taste
Tart… my tongue is still stuck to the top of my mouth. There is a reason they don’t bottle blueberry.

Price
These were buy one get one free at $4 which is still robbery plus tax.

Philippine Brand Mango

Posted: April 19th, 2011

Packaging
The maker of tall skinny cans (tsc corp.) just paid me a grand to make you aware that tall skinny cans are awesome!  I don’t have the time to get into tall yellow skinny cans.  It’s very imperative that you understand this beverage is not from concentrate, non!. Concentrate is bad, very very bad, check the stats.  Along the top it says ‘Sweet Memories of Cebu’ which a Google search tells me was the owners prized Monkey that could do back flips while eating mango.  Sweet indeed.

Smell
After shaking the can for a good minute because ‘well’ is subjective,  I pop the cap to a pleasent smell of …. I guess mango but it could be orange.

Taste
It’s very mild, however, it’s mislabeled as ‘refreshing.’ I wouldn’t hop over to the ice chest after a barefoot coconut soccer game to slam some mango. Maybe things are different in Philippines?  Another quick Google search tells me things are quite different in the Philippines. They’re watching me…my IP address has been logged…. oh yeah Taste. Well I drank the whole thing, so it’s not awful. Go buy one and support your local Filipino culture by attending their yearly…. barefoot soccer match. BYOC.

Price
This can was handed to me by a third party sent from the sponsor below. As most Philopininians do, you drink what you are given, it could be your last. Estimated price: $1 for kids under 6.

Ben Shaw’s Dandelion & Burdock

Posted: April 12th, 2011
Packaging
This can has a very classic look. The black and white picture lets me know that I am in for an Old-Englishman-Working-In-The-Mill-Come-Home-Full-Of-Soot kind of an afternoon, however, the purple says I can put my apron on too if I like. Classic!

Smell
The smell is very pleasant. It smells of when I was but a child playing in seas of dandelion and burdoc… wait what is that second ingredient? … Google says it’s some kind of terrifying pointy plant. Here we go…

Taste
It kinda looks like a cola but the flavour is really hard to describe. It taste good don’t get me wrong, but you kind of doubt yourself with every drink.  Am I liking it because I want to know what it’s like living in broken and degraded London circa 1871 or do I like it because dandelion is good for my skin? It’s a tough question that you have plenty of time to think about with each slow sip.

Price
This is where it gets tricky and your foreign currency knowledge comes into play. 39 pence converted to Canadian dollars I believe… comes close to $10 and some change. This is pretty standard if you’ve ever been to the UK.

Blue Monkey – Coconut Water

Posted: March 1st, 2011
Packaging
My coworker said this can looks ‘third world.’ I think I will have to agree with him. Those coconuts leave me to believe this drink is going to be refreshing! I’m ready for my daily dose of natural isotonic.

Smell
Smells like aluminum, no really I can’t smell anything else.  That worries me …

Taste
Coconut water has a very unique taste.  You want to enjoy it, because you love the thought of sitting on the beach with the crashing waves and a straw sticking out of a coconut.  In reality you slightly cringe after each very small sip.  It’s unrefreshing.

Price
Thankfully this beverage was donated by realmtl because I couldn’t stomach paying for it.

Kombucha Wonder Drink

Posted: February 28th, 2011
Packaging
There are several things about this beverage that make me nervous. For starters I don’t think the words ‘sparkling’, ‘fermented’ and ‘tea’ should be in the same sentence or even in that order.  I also am confident the word ‘Wonder’ should never be used in a product title. It appears this beverage was brewed in the beautiful Himalayas of Portland Oregon.

Smell
Upon opening the can I immediately come to the conclusion that I need to stop this blog.  Did a sewer line just break? I really don’t want to drink this…

Taste
I took a quick sip and was surprisingly OK with it.  The sparkling side of it really took over. It was on the second sip when something was stuck to my tongue that I really didn’t want to go any further.  This is not my cup of fermented tea.

Price
It was donated to me by the fine folks at realmtl, so pricing is still in negotiations.
